mounties kill man with taser

The debate about the use of Taser in the law enforcement community has been in full flow for a while now. Most British forces will not issue them to officers who do not routinely carry firearms, although the trial has been extended to non-AFOs (Authorized Firearms Officers) in recent weeks.

A video on YouTube (which, for the sake of sensitivity, I will not link to, but it can be found by searching "RCMP Taser death video released to public" on YouTube) and BBC News report demonstrates how it can get out of control and go wrong very quickly in situations requiring the use of non-lethal restraint equipment.

In all honesty, I don't know how I feel about this particular event, but know for sure it has made me think about whether I could ever carry and use a firearm in the line of duty
